Fire in the Indian factory producing iPhone
A major fire broke out at the Tata Electronics factory in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. At least 10 people were affected by smoke and taken under treatment in the fire that started in a building where chemicals were stored. It was also stated that iPhone components were damaged.
According to information from India, the fire occurred when more than 500 employees were on shift. All employees were safely evacuated. Despite the intense efforts of the fire brigades, thick smoke rising from the flames affected the area for hours.
The Tata Electronics factory produces various components used in the iPhone. A building that was scheduled to start full capacity iPhone production by the end of this year was also affected by the fire. The full extent of the damage is not yet known, but only material damage was reported.
Officials said it is unclear when production will resume as they need to inspect the affected areas in detail. Tata Electronics confirmed that all employees were safe and said they were investigating the cause of the fire. Apple has not yet made an official statement about the disruption.
